In July 2023 , as part of the school’s outreach 33 pupils and 7 teachers from Frensham Heights School left for the 2023 trip to Malawi ladened with over 35 suitcases filled with laptops, sports kit, shoes, clothing, and classroom supplies. In the run up to departure the pupils engaged in a huge amount of collecting and fundraising to source clothing, shoes, electronics, paints and building materials to facilitate their projects whilst in Malawi. Quiz nights, sponsored swims, art auctions, cake sales, fete stalls and much more helped to raise a grand total of over £9000 for the schools in Malawi.
The 2023 trip was Frensham Heights 7th time in the 16 years of partnering with MST to help and support Malawi Schools. The Pupils aged between 15 and 18 years of age were given the opportunity to really get involved and carry out refurbishment work at two Schools in the Kasungu district of Malawi.
The children worked amazingly well teaming up with Malawi students and staff forging invaluable friendships. All the children thoroughly enjoyed their tasks, getting their hands dirty helping to paint classrooms and build some outdoor amenities. Some of the children were also involved in helping the Malawi teachers to manage and use the IT equipment donated by the involved who could see for themselves the amount of hard work required to carry out these projects, with limited resources and in one of the poorest parts of the world.
Parents and Teachers have said that this was a life changing experience for all the children.
