In partnership with World Bicycle Relief, 118 bicycles have been provided. With many children, especially girls, living far away from school, bikes make it possible for them to attend. In Mikuyu all girls who live 3kms from school have been given bikes. In addition, 11 bikes have gone to Teachers, Mother Group, Head Teacher, PTA Head.
To keep them running well, there is a 2 weekly preventative maintenance checks and parts supply. They provide a 7 day training programme for someone nominated by the community to become the bike mechanic.
The bikes remain property of the school until the end of Year 3 when the bikes are given to the pupils as an incentive to complete their final exams in Form 4.
