More Students means More Desks!
In October 2024 we visited Madanjala Secondary Schools and were astonished to find Form 1( from Age 14) students sat on the floor for classes. Whilst this is not unusual in Primary Schools in Africa its rare for secondary schools.
Even more surprising was seeing 87 Form 2 (from Age 15) children squeezed into a Classroom for 50 pupils. Now we know where the desks went!
Of course crammed classrooms and increasing pupil numbers is a positive sign of our work. 87 pupils in Form 2 is great news. But clearly students need to be comfortable to study well.
Thanks to a Donation from Farnham Rotary club in January 2025 we provided 50 desks to Madanjala and Mankhaka school in March.
These desks have been gratefully received by the students and teachers. And now the Pupils at these schools all have comfortable places to sit, study and write exams!
Other good news is that the desks were made in the local community, creating work and skills development in the local area.
Being able to respond to this need quickly and directly is a particularly satisfying part of our work. Thank you to Rotary Farnham Club for making it happen.
