In March, the headmaster at Mikuyu advised us that Mikuyu now has 2 female teachers, the first in its 20 year history.
Oscar Mpunda, Country Manager for Malawi Schools Trust, advised that “Following the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between Malawi Schools Trust and the Department of Education the working relationship between the 2 organisation has improved massively. In this school semester Mikuyu has received two lady teachers, and one is already earmarked to be the school Matron at the girl’s hostel.
Doreen Kandola is now teaching Social studies & Geography and Gladys Cosmas Richard is teaching English and Chichewa.
The impact of Doreena and Gladys on girls education at Mikuyu will be profound. As role models and mentors, we are sure they will have a huge impact on pupil confidence and performance.”
